Fort Verde State Park
The Fort Verde State Park is dedicated to collecting, preserving and displaying artifacts and documents that pertain to people and activities connected with historic Fort Verde. One of the highlights of the Fort's research-related materials is its excellent photo collection. There is also important material on area families and businesses such as the C. D. Head Company and the Wingfields and Fains.
As one would expect, this location is an excellent source of information on military history. Park Superintendent, Robert Munson has made copies of documents in the National Archives that pertain to Fort activities, soldiers, teachers, doctors, and other personnel connected with Fort Verde. The Fort Verde State Park also has a great deal of information on late nineteenth and early twentieth century Bureau of Indian Affairs activities.
In addition to artifacts and an extensive collection of archival materials, The Fort has a good book collection, but their books are not in circulation. The publications on Yavapai County are those found in most branch libraries.
In order to reach the facility, turn off Camp Verde's Main Street onto Hollamon and go for two blocks. For further information, call 520-567-3275.
