Exploring Arizona Historic Trails
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute classes are open by registration only. For more information call the number below.
With the help of guest experts, this series will explore and discuss the many historic trails that criss-cross Arizona, including: the routes used by Juan Bautista deAnza and the Spanish padres on their way to California in the 18th Century; the military roads followed by General Kearny during the Mexican War, and General Crook in later Indian wars; the Southern Emigrant Road taken by emigrants during the Gold Rush; the military expeditions to find a route across Northern Arizona; and the wagon roads that supplied Prescott from the Colorado River before the arrival of the railroad in the 1890s.

Living History

Come visit with living history interpreters as they relive Arizona's military past. This month will be honoring America's service men and women as we commemorate Armed Forces Day. The Fort Whipple Museum is located in Building 11 on the Veteran's Administration Hospital campus off of Arizona Highway 89. Jack Dykinga Circling the Canyon's Rim: A Photographic Tour of Well-Known and Secret Canyon Viewpoints Sunday, May 18, 2008 1:00 p.m.
Jack Dykinga, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, shares his experiences and intimate locations for photographing the majesty and wonder of the Grand Canyon. He has been photographing for Arizona Highways magazine for over 25 years, and in the process, he has discovered and photographed the amazing diversity of Arizona's landscapes. His new book: Images: Jack Dykinga's Grand Canyon celebrates one of his favorite locations in the world.

35th Annual FOLK ARTS FAIR

Welcome to a gala community celebration of traditional arts, crafts, and entertainments of central Arizona.
This is not a sales event or a crafts fair. It is demonstration and education oriented. There are many hands-on opportunities to try crafts from Arizona's territorial period.
Hundreds of demonstrators and performers will demonstrate horseshoeing, woodcarving, quilting, sheep shearing, carding, dyeing, spinning and weaving wool, military equipment, antique photography and printing, blacksmithing, and tinpunching. Fiddle bands, folksingers, cloggers, and contra dancers will entertain.
Service animals are welcome; no pets please.
