Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden
ROSA SESMORE MCGARR
Rosa was born December 28, 1877, in Prescott, Arizona Territory, to Michael P. Sesmore and Mrs. Garcia Sesmore.

Rosa met and married Charles E. McGarr on November 11, 1900. Her name on the marriage certificate is given as Rose. He was a former sergeant in Buckey O'Neill's company of Rough Riders, Troop A. Charles also served as a Ranger for the Arizona Territory from 1905 to 1907. One year he operated a popular hotel and bar in Walker, AT.

The McGarrs had three children: Charlotte, born in 1902; Lionel Charles, born 1904 and died in 1968; and Thelma E. Miller (Mrs. Albert), born in 1909 and died in 2001. A Phoenix newspaper reported that Rosa's ability to speak Spanish was of great help to her husband when he ran for public office in Maricopa county.

Charles died in 1961, and Rosa died March 23, 1953, also in Phoenix. She and Charles were buried in St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix.
