Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden
NELLIE GRACE MILLER RITTER

Nellie was born in Barrackville, West Virginia, on March 20, 1882, and came to Arizona in 1902. She married Ed Ritter on June 5, 1907, in Prescott. The couple had three children: Curtis, Edna Grace Lang and Alta Rose Smith.

Nellie was active in school and community affairs, serving on the school board for 18 years. She was a charter member of the Yavapai Cowbelles. She belonged to the Kirkland Women's Club and to the Methodist-Episcopal Church.

When Ed died in 1939, Nellie assumed full responsibility for the conduct of the ranch. In 1955, she was named Arizona Mother of the Year.

Nellie died on March 13, 1962, and was buried in the Simmons plot of the Arizona Pioneers' Cemetery
