MARY BIRCHETT RUFFNER

Mollie was born October 14, 1869, the daughter of Joseph Birchett. She taught school in Mayer. Mollie married George C. Ruffner, Yavapai sheriff, in Prescott on April 22, 1891, at which time the Miner remarked "the bride, having been for several years one of the most beloved and successful teachers in the public schools of the county." Their children were George, Jr. and Gladys McDonald.

Mollie was an early member of the Monday Club and its president in 1905-06. She served as first vice president of the Arizona Federation of Women's Clubs. In 1940 she was honored as Arizona's Outstanding Pioneer Club Woman.

Mollie was also a member of the Art Committee, 1909-10, and was an active member of the Congregational Church serving as president of its Women's Fellowship. She was a Worthy Matron of the Golden Rule Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mollie died on February 17, 1949, in Phoenix, having been widowed since 1933. Mollie was buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
