MARGARET ANN ROBY LORING
Margaret Ann Roby "Aggie" was born in Alexandria, New Hampshire, on June 10, 1853. She married George Edwin Loring on July 18, 1874, and came to Arizona with him in 1876.
Aggie was the first librarian of the first Phoenix Library. Aggie and George had their first son, George, in Phoenix. She died shortly after the birth of a second son, Madison, on August 12, 1878, in the Hancock Home at 33 Cortez Street in Phoenix.
A letter from Lillie Hancock continues: "...so kind, as good and gentle, always trying to make everyone around her happy. She always had a smile and a pleasant word for everyone, and all that knew her loved her.
"A devoted little Boston poodle, named Sport, would not be separated from his mistress and lay on the floor beneath her bed. "
She was buried in the Loring vault in Phoenix.
