EMILY BELLE RODGERS PAYNE
Emily Belle, daughter of R. M. "Mac" Rodgers and Harriett Shull Rodgers, was born September 6, 1888, at Camp Verde. Her father was a partner in the Camp Verde sutler's store of Rodgers and Wingfield. As a young woman, she taught school at Ash Fork and in the Prescott schools of Miller Valley, Lincoln and Washington.
Emily married Morris Wing Payne, owner and operator of Granite Dells, on June 22, 1922. After Belle's marriage, she worked with her husband in the operation of Granite Dells and was active in the First Congregational Church, the Past Grand Nobles and the Monday Club.
"Belle" and Morris had one son, Sherman Rodgers Payne born September 11, 1924, and four grandchildren.
Belle died on October 15, 1950, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery.
