Territorial Women's Memorial Rose Garden
CHRISTINA SHALE CURTIS
Christine or Christena was the daughter of William and Susan Knox Shale.

She was born December 1, 1865, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She married Alfred G. Curtis in 1887. He was a miner in Colorado and had come west from Ottawa, Illinois. The couple came to Arizona Territory from Colorado in the 1890s and lived first on the Brooks Ranch south of Prescott and then in Poland before staking claims on Lynx Creek.During the school term, they lived at 110 South Summit Street.

Their children were Anne Margaret, born 1886; Alfred George, Jr., born 1887; Anna Marie, born May 1, 1887, died 1971; an infant born in 1894 who died shortly after birth; Jessie Virginia, born in 1896, died in 1987; William Edward, born in 1898, died in 1961; and Laura Christine, born October 16, 1900, and died October 20, 1945.

Widowed in 1938, Christine moved to 109 Capital Street. Alfred spent his final years at the Arizona Pioneers' Home. She died on June 21, 1957, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery beside her husband.
